Catania Airport

Catania Airport

For the new Catania Fontanarossa airport, the Romagnoli-Pisa firms chose Sofil Lo Bianco marbles to build one of the largest works ever constructed in Sicily.

Dr. Gioacchino Lo Bianco submitted to the designers, Arch. Fulci and Eng. Caminiti, a range of materials suitable for the stresses that an airport pavement must endure both in terms of wear and tear as millions of travelers pass by and in terms of resistance to bending since these are structures that undergo strong vibrations caused by aircraft landings.

After a lengthy analysis of laboratory tests of different products, Kristall White granite from quarries in Portugal was chosen, and SOFIL imported the blocks to Italy and at its plant cut about 20,000 sq. m. Of bricks at cm. 3 thick.

In addition, ventilated facades in Pietra Lavica and beige Limestone were supplied for another 10,000 sq. m.
