Palermo Marina Yachting

Palermo Marina Yachting

INFO PRODUCT

The Palermo Marina Yachting (former trapezoidal pier) project began in 2021, with Architect Sebastiano Provenzano and Engineer Enrico Petralia of the Port Authority, for the selection of the natural stone.

After a good creative process focused on functionality, resistance to vehicular load to the sea salt, and aesthetics, the choice among many materials examined fell on Nora Basalt, an Italian Basalt, with unique characteristics.

A volcanic-formed basalt with an assumed age of around 3 million years, Nora Basalt meets the stringent techno-physical features that allow, under current regulations, its use for exterior works in the marine environment.

Today, at the Palermo Marina Yachting, the gray of Nora Basalt covers an area of more than 15,000 square meters. The stone, sized in 20 cm in decreasing lengths, distinctly completes the waterfront. Added to this are the 2,000 sqm of ventilated walls and about 1 km of bevelled curbs for the huge overflowing fountain (the largest musical tone fountain in Europe)
